On June 16th, people gathered at The Texan in downtown Athens for Art on the Bricks to celebrate and support local artists. Art on the Bricks was in collaboration with Art Gallery 211 to help benefit the gallery and its artists.
Artist of all ages and skill levels painted bricks from the original Texan and those bricks were on display for citizens to admire and purchase to benefit Art Gallery 211. People from all over east Texas came to see the wonderful creations of the citizens of Athens while celebrating fine art to the tune of the TVCC Jazz Band. Come and Take It generously donated wine to event as well.
“Art on the Bricks was a huge success on so many levels” said Adrianna Hinds, Community Services Coordinator for the City of Athens. “We are so pleased to have collaborated with Art Gallery 211 on this project and very thankful to the community for showing their support by purchasing historic Texan bricks to raise funds for the gallery- a staple for our downtown. It was a lovely evening for Athens and the local fine arts community.”
On Monday, June 25th at the Regularly Scheduled City Council Meeting, Mayor Monte Montgomery presented a check to Art Gallery 211 in the amount of $2,720 as a donation from the proceeds raised at the Art on the Bricks event.
