Athens Fire/Rescue Deploys to Louisiana

Firefighter Justin Miller, Fire Driver Ricky Harris, and Assistant Fire Chief Paul Crayton (pictured from left) deployed to Lousiana Monday morning in response to Hurricane Ida.

The team was first headed to Beaumont’s Fire Station 1, where they will join the Aledo Fire Department, Beaumont Fire/Rescue, Hewitt Fire Department, Lufkin Fire Department, and Waco Fire Department to comprise Strike Team 21-119. The Strike Team will then deploy to Baton Rouge, LA for assignment.

The deployment came after the State of Texas received an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request from the State of Louisiana. EMAC is a national interstate mutual aid agreement that enables states to share resources during times of disaster.

Athens Fire/Rescue has deployed for other requests such as the flooding in Vidor, Texas 2019, regional COVID-19 coordination 2020, and the California wildfires in 2020.
