Mark Carroll Appointed for City Council

The Athens City Council unanimously appointed Mark Carroll to fill the unexpired term for Council Member Place 1 during Monday night's meeting.

The Place 1 seat was left vacant when Toni Garrard Clay was appointed to serve as Mayor earlier this month.

Carroll has served as chairman of the Athens Planning and Zoning Committee and is currently a member of the Athens Municipal Water Authority board, a position he will resign to join the Athens City Council.

"I am excited about being a part of the City Council," Carroll said," and serving the citizens and businesses of Athens."

Carroll is expected to be sworn in at the next regular Athens City Council meeting scheduled for July 12.
